2 Timoteo

2 Timothy

The second of Paul’s letters to Timothy has all the weight of a last will and testament. Paul knows he will be dying soon and therefore his last words are of great importance. There was great spiritual deterioration in the church between the writing of the first and second epistles, hence the contrast that we see in the content. In the first letter, Paul gives instruction about conduct in the house of God, and depicts the church as the “pillar and foundation of the truth,” (3:15). However, we see the church in a different light in the second epistle where the church is described as a large house mixed with some for noble purposes and some for ignoble (2:17-21).

We find similar conditions in the Church today which makes a study of 2 Timothy of great value to understand what it is to walk in a way that is worthy of the Lord, while at the same time to “keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus,” (1:13).
