Understanding Genesis is key to understanding the subsequent history of mankind. In this easy-to-read, verse-by-verse devotional commentary, Ken Fleming does just that — he helps us understand Genesis.
As you read this commentary, the Bible will come alive as you connect the patriarchs with the ongoing story of God’s plan and purpose. Themes such as the tragic effects of sin, the promise of redemption, and the coming of Jesus Christ, will reveal God’s justice and holiness as well as His everlasting compassion and love.
The book of Genesis remains important in understanding God’s design for your life. The events that are chronicled mirror human experience in failure and success, in the struggle to overcome sin, and in the need for a faith-based relationship with God. As the Scriptures themselves promise, a committed study of God’s Word will impact your mind, your heart, and your actions, and leave you with renewed gratitude for all that God has done.
Ken Fleming has been an enthusiastic and passionate Bible teacher for more than fifty years. His service for Christ has led him to many parts of the globe, including South Africa, where he spent twenty-five years as a missionary among the Zulu people. From 1977 through 2002, Ken taught in the Bible and Missions programs at Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa. Today he continues proclaiming the gospel and strengthening the church body through writing and preaching ministries. Here's What People Are Saying!
“I bought one of your new books on Genesis and have read most of it so far. Because Genesis is the foundation of God's truth, purpose, and character as revealed throughout the Scriptures, it is wonderful to have your book that presents so many perspectives as to how this foundation applies to God's plan and how He has been fulfilling it throughout history. If I had this knowledge and were to write a book, this is the way I would have wanted to write it.I believe that everyone should have this book. Thank you so much!”

“I just finished Genesis in my Thursday class, and used it all the way through. It's a wonderful treatise on Genesis. Now please send me Exodus and then Leviticus... well the entire Pentateuch, if there is time before the rapture!! Thanks so much for giving it to me.”

I've finished my men's class on Genesis 1-11 using Ken Fleming's Commentary on Genesis. This was a big hit with the men. I got a lot of feedback on how good the commentary was and they frequently referenced it in our class discussions. It seemed to hit at the right level and was easy to read, contrary to many commentaries. These men are not steeped in Biblical knowledge but are smart guys.

I call her my Resplendent Bride because I have eyes and ears and for a time she even let me hold her hand.
Yet although her time among us was cut short by cancer, I still feel the afterglow of her resplendence. We were married less than three years. I buried my heart and my wedding ring in St. Louis.
We walked through the shadowlands hand-in-hand until she drew her final breath. She suffered gracefully in a world that does not know what to do with pain.
The Christian faith has always been about death and resurrection, for those twin truths were the reason the Lord Jesus sojourned among us. We have forgotten the old way—we have forgotten how to suffer and die well.
Danielle was my Resplendent Bride, and the church is Christ’s. I invite you to walk through this broken house so that you may know our small part in the divine love story.
As King David said in Psalm 27:13, “. . . I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!” and if not, I know the resurrection fast approaches.
Come, won’t you sit amongst the graves with me, and dream of Resurrection Day?
