In January, 1956, the world was staggered to hear that five young missionaries of Christ had been annihilated by the spears of tribal Indians in Ecuador. One life laid down was that of Peter Fleming.
Pete had learned to live the life of faith. As he comprehended the power of God in his daily walk, he penned in his personal diary many of his soul’s struggles. Some of these comments are self-critical, many are triumphant and Christ-glorifying.
In the foresight and providence of God, these chronicles have been preserved. Now Pete’s brother, Ken Fleming, has compiled the contents of these diaries, plus numerous personal letters written by his brother.
Collectively they reveal in an exceptional way the spiritual maturation of this man of God. Of few Christian pacesetters is it possible to discern how they developed as Peter Fleming did. Unquestionably, this book is the chronicle of growth of a Man of Faith. The author’s desire is that many young believers will be encouraged to follow the same pathway.
Ken Fleming has been an enthusiastic and passionate Bible teacher for more than fifty years. His service for Christ has led him to many parts of the globe, including South Africa, where he spent twenty-five years as a missionary among the Zulu people. From 1977 through 2002, Ken taught in the Bible and Missions programs at Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa. Today he continues proclaiming the gospel and strengthening the church body through writing and preaching ministries.

Here's What People Are Saying!
"This is a great book. In writing the story of his brother's life, Ken Fleming has given us an inspiring and exhortational example of what it means, practically speaking, to live a life of faith in God. I recommend it to anyone!"
"As a former student of Ken Fleming's, I was required to read this book in one of his classes. I had read "Through the Gates of Splendor" by Elizabeth Elliot, and so figured that it would not be of much interest to me. However, when I did read it, I was fascinated by the different viewpoint that Mr. Fleming takes.
"Ken writes from the perspective of a brother who had a close relationship with Pete, even though (at the time of Pete's martyrdom) they were on complete opposite sides of the Earth (Ken was working with the Zulu at the time). He discusses Pete's personality, his working relationship with God and others and his reasonings about giving up a potential career to be a missionary who would have no visible means of support (he did not even have pledges, nor did he request money from others.) He makes great use of Pete's diary and letters to others to develop his memoir.
"As a professor, Mr. Fleming has a sharp wit and a strong ability to use language to communicate; this ability comes out in his book. A good read!"

I call her my Resplendent Bride because I have eyes and ears and for a time she even let me hold her hand.
Yet although her time among us was cut short by cancer, I still feel the afterglow of her resplendence. We were married less than three years. I buried my heart and my wedding ring in St. Louis.
We walked through the shadowlands hand-in-hand until she drew her final breath. She suffered gracefully in a world that does not know what to do with pain.
The Christian faith has always been about death and resurrection, for those twin truths were the reason the Lord Jesus sojourned among us. We have forgotten the old way—we have forgotten how to suffer and die well.
Danielle was my Resplendent Bride, and the church is Christ’s. I invite you to walk through this broken house so that you may know our small part in the divine love story.
As King David said in Psalm 27:13, “. . . I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!” and if not, I know the resurrection fast approaches.
Come, won’t you sit amongst the graves with me, and dream of Resurrection Day?
